SPAY / NEUTER SERVICES

Penny Paws Spay / Neuter Services in Texas

Spaying or Neutering means that your pet cannot reproduce after she/he has had the procedure.

By spaying or neutering your pet, you are reducing the chances of unwanted litters that are likely to end up in a shelter. Did you know that approximately 7.3 million cats and dogs enter animal shelters each year? The shelters do their best to try and adopt out these pets but approximately 2.7 million of these animals are euthanized on an annual basis.

Spaying your female pet also can help to reduce the chances of your pet getting breast cancer or cancer of the ovaries/uterus. It also will prevent your pet from getting a serious infection of the uterus called pyometra.

Prostate and testicular cancers are very common in male dogs of any age. Neutering helps to greatly reduce the possibility of your male dog or cat getting this disease.

Pets who are spayed and neutered are also generally more friendly and less likely to want to roam away from home or to fight with other pets.

We recommend spaying or neutering your pet when he/she has completed his/her last set of puppy/kitten vaccines. This is usually around the age of 4-5 months. Performing surgery on a young animal means that the pet will recover quicker and it will be less stressful or painful for the pet overall.

For the procedure, your pet will be anesthetized and monitored by a skilled nurse. He will be given IV fluids throughout the procedure to keep him hydrated and to avoid him feeling nauseated when he wakes up. Pain medication will be provided in addition to and E-collar which will prevent your pet from removing his stitches. In approximately 10-14 days from the day of surgery, your pet will return to our clinic to have his stitches removed and to make sure that he has fully recovered from surgery and will be free to resume his normal routine.

To schedule your pet’s spay or neuter, we encourage you to call us at any of our animal clinics:

Our Dog was in need of an emergency spay and they got her in within 2 hours. The staff was very friendly and the doctor made time to talk to me after the surgery, and when I picked her up to see if I had any questions. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in need of vet care. I will continue to use Penny Paws, because they helped my furbaby when we were in desperate need and for less than half of what other places wanted to charge us.

What Our Customers are Saying

“Dr. Nelson was so sweet and patient through all of my questions. The staff here are amazing and genuinely care about the animals. Dr. Nelson and the vet tech both got on the floor with my dog to make her feel more comfortable. It was half the price of our old vet and the care was WAY better. This will definitely be the only vet we visit from now on.”

– Emily

“I absolutely love Penny Paws at Basswood Crossing! I have 3 cats and 2 dogs and have been taking them all there for about 2 years now. We usually just go to the Saturday clinics for shots, but the entire staff still remembers all of my animals each time! They’re such a great group of people and truly love animals there. I’ve lived all over the US and have never found a vet’s office that is so loving.”
